It
is with GREAT HAPPINESS that we all, staff and students of the School for
Deaf in AKA.MA tell you that finally, we have our first malagasy deaf who has
got the official diploma "baccalaureat", the diploma to register in
universities.
Her
full name is RAOELIARIMALALA Mandimbisoa Sylvia, called Mandimby. She is 23
years old.
She has been student of AKA.MA. since her first class in preschool in 1989.
She
tried 3 times the exam with her classmates and has success this year.
The
exam has held in August. They were 7 to pass it this year. AKA.MA. presents
candidates for the exam from 4 years ago but no success before this year. Last
week, the university proclamed the result and we have only one who has succeded.
But it is the first of the history of the deaf in Madagascar. We are very glad.
The
exam is very hard for the Malagasy deaf because there is no special
consideration for Deaf needs. Same exam and same procedure for all hearing
and deaf students. So the deaf should work hard and have to challange more than
hearing student for the same exam.
We
project for her to follow up her study to an accessible university, suitable for
Deaf. The deaf in Madagascar need a very good model. We need deaf leaders who
are deaf. All of you that I send this message know very well the Deaf situation
in Madagascar.
You
are our hope to help us to find the good way for Mandimby. She will not welcome
to any of the universities in Madagascar. She must studdy abroad with deaf
students like her. We do not want to lose her, to lose this opportunity to have
an intellectual deaf. You are far more experienced for where and how to
register. We are new and beginners about that issue. Please, give your
suggestion and help us to find the scholarship and all means for her success,
just for the Deaf in Madagascar. I think that together we can do it. We need
your help.
